The short version
- No advertising cookies, no tracking cookies, no cookie banner needed.
- When you sign in, cookies keep you signed in and your account safe. That is all.
- The editor keeps your plan in your browser storage, on your device.
1. On the website
The website sets no cookies. We count visits without cookies and without any id (see the privacy policy). The calculator in the guides remembers your last room in your browser storage, so it is still there when you come back. During a visit your browser also notes that the fonts of the site are loaded (session storage, gone when you close the tab), so the next page shows them at once. It holds no id.
2. When you sign in
| Cookie | What for | How long |
|---|---|---|
| __Secure-sqm.session_token | Keeps you signed in to your account. Strictly necessary | 7 days, renewed while you use Squaremetry |
| __Secure-sqm.better-auth-passkey | Holds a one-time check while you add or use a passkey. Strictly necessary | 5 minutes |
| sqm.device | A random id of this device, set when you sign in. It lets us keep at most 2 devices signed in at once and email you about a new device. We keep only a scrambled value derived from it. Strictly necessary for security | 400 days |
These cookies are only readable by our servers, not by scripts on the page, and are only sent over a secure connection. Because they are strictly necessary, we do not ask for consent. Once we offer sign-in with Google, Apple or Microsoft, a similar short-lived cookie holds the sign-in step; we list it here before that starts.
3. Browser storage in the editor
The editor stores data in your browser (local storage and IndexedDB) so it works without an account and offline. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us, until you save it to your account or send it yourself.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your plan, up to 20 local versions, recent exports and a photo, PDF or DXF drawing you trace over | So your work is kept without an account |
| Favourites, your defaults, chosen modes, units and language | So the editor remembers your choices |
| Tips you have seen and closed | So we do not show them again |
| A note that you are signed in (no password or token) | So the editor knows to load your account |
| Changes not yet saved to your account, and feedback not yet sent | So nothing is lost when the connection drops |
| The code of the link behind the QR code on a report | So the same link is used again |
| Saved app files (offline use) | So the editor opens without a connection |
You can remove all of it by clearing the site data for squaremetry.com in your browser settings. Your saved plans in your account are not affected.
4. Third parties
Fonts and images are served from our own domain. No third party sets cookies on the website or in the editor, with one exception: the payment page. When you pay, the editor opens the checkout by Paddle (Paddle.js from cdn.paddle.com). Paddle may use its own cookies and storage there for the payment and against fraud, under its own cookie policy. Paddle loads nowhere else on the website or in the editor.
