In short: Can ChatGPT make a floor plan?
- Good for ideas: room lists, sizes and layouts to consider
- Not a plan you can measure: no scale, no checked areas
- Paste its room list into Squaremetry, one room per line
- The calculation engine, not the chat, works out the areas
A room list from a chat, drawn to scale
| Room | Size | Area |
|---|---|---|
| Living room | 18 × 14 ft | 252 sq ft |
| Kitchen | 12 × 11 ft | 132 sq ft |
| Primary bedroom | 14 × 12 ft | 168 sq ft |
| Bedroom 2 | 11 × 10 ft | 110 sq ft |
| Bathroom | 9 × 6 ft | 54 sq ft |
| All rooms | 716 sq ft |
Why a picture is not a floor plan
A floor plan you can use has walls you can move, sizes you can type and an area for every room that adds up to the total. A picture has none of that: if one wall is off, nothing tells you.
A way that works
Ask the chat for rooms with sizes, one per line, like Kitchen 12 x 11. Open Squaremetry, choose List, paste the lines and click Add rooms. Move the rooms into place and add doors and windows. The areas follow by themselves.
