Room layouts

Studio room layouts

Split the one room into zones: the kitchen along one wall, the bed in the corner farthest from the door, and the sofa in between as the divider. Below are three studios drawn to scale, from 200 to 432 sq ft, each with a queen bed, a kitchen run and a sofa.

  • Drawn to scale
  • Kitchen, bed and sofa

Three studio layouts

Three studio rooms drawn by the editor. The 200 and 300 sq ft rooms are the same sizes as our pages on how big 200 and 300 square feet are; the bathroom is a separate room and not part of these numbers.

Three zones in one room

  • Cooking: one wall with the sink, the cooktop and the fridge, close to the door so groceries do not cross the room.
  • Sleeping: the corner farthest from the door, ideally by the window. An armoire or a bookcase can screen it.
  • Living: the sofa between the two, with its back to the bed. It divides the room without a wall.
  • Eating: a small table near the kitchen, or a counter with stools if the room is narrow.

A studio of 200 square feet

In 20 × 10 ft there is room for a 7 ft kitchen run, a queen bed and a sofa, but not a dining table. The bed has 30 in on one side and 30 in on the other.

A daybed or a sofa bed instead of the queen bed frees the most floor; swap it in the editor and compare.

From the room to the whole apartment

These layouts show the main room. A studio apartment also has a bathroom and often a closet by the door; our studio apartment floor plans show the whole home with every room measured.

How it works in the editor

  1. Open one of the studios below. The room opens with the kitchen run, the bed and the sofa in place; sizes are inside the walls.
  2. Drag the walls to the size of your own studio, then move the bed, the sofa and the table to where they fit best.
  3. Turn on Interior to add a dresser, a rug or a room divider from the library, each at its real size.
  4. Draw the bathroom and the closet next to it to see the whole apartment, and get the area of every room.
  5. Look at it in 3D and export a PNG or PDF.

Questions

Questions

About studio layouts. Can’t find your answer? Send us a message.

How do you arrange a studio room?

In zones: the kitchen along one wall, the bed in the corner farthest from the door and the sofa in between as a divider. A table goes near the kitchen.

How do you separate a bed in a studio?

With furniture instead of a wall: the back of the sofa, an open bookcase or an armoire. Our 300 sq ft studio uses the armoire next to the bed.

What fits in a 300 sq ft studio?

In our 20 × 15 ft studio: an 8 ft kitchen run, a table for six, a queen bed, an armoire and a sofa with a coffee table.

Where should the bed go in a studio?

In the corner farthest from the entrance, so you do not walk past it, and away from the cooktop.
