What counts

What counts in the square footage

The office in the corner plan is finished space, listed as an office rather than a bedroom because it opens from the living room and has no closet. That unit has 751 sq ft inside the walls and 844 sq ft to their outer face.

Each room is measured inside its walls. The finished area of a house is measured to the outside of the exterior walls (ANSI Z765), so it is larger than the rooms added up.

Questions

1 bedroom apartment floor plans: questions

About these 1 bedroom apartment plans. Can’t find your answer? Send us a message.

How big is a 1 bedroom apartment?

Often about 550 to 850 sq ft inside. Ours have 648 and 751 sq ft; for a smaller one see our apartment and studio pages.

What is the difference between a 1 bedroom and a studio?

In a 1-bedroom the bed is in its own room with a door. In a studio you sleep in the main room, sometimes in an alcove, which saves a wall and a door.

Can I change these plans?

Yes. Click Open in the editor under a plan and it opens as your own plan in the Squaremetry editor, with the same numbers as on this page. Move a wall and every area and the total update.

Is this a construction drawing?

No. This is an example floor plan, not a construction drawing. The Squaremetry team drew it for this page; it has no address. For a permit you need drawings from a qualified designer.
